FAIR launches Transnational Investigation 2008 on human traffic
  • From 2000 to date, at least eight million African men, women and children have been trafficked to destinations in Europe, America and the Middle East.  They have ended up as unpaid labourers in construction sites, in food processing plants, in brothels, as household slaves, on plantations, in the criminal underworld, in prisons, dead, or simply on the streets.

Presentation 1: Anas Aremeyaw Anas on Human Trafficking in Ghana

In 18 moths of undercover work, Ghanaian FAIR member Anas Aremeyaw Anas uncovered two trafficking networks, and rescued 17 victims of trafficking. As a result of Anas' investigation, police in the country established a special trafficking unit.

Presentation 2 part 1: Frank Nyakairu's Human Rights Investigations

FAIR delegate Frank Nyakairu has travelled Uganda and the war-torn Great Lakes region to report on human rights violations. He found a great number, many of which, disconcertingly, seem to have something to do with the US-led War on Terror in Africa. Nyakairu's human rights reports recently won him the International Knight/ICFJ Journalism Award.
